Letter to the Editor
I missed the deadline for the last issue so now it’s time for me to thank and acknowledge all of those wonderful DVR members who really made the Grand Classic a huge success. While I appreciated the compliments, it was really all of you, the Committee Chairs and members, who made it a success. I would like to recognize all of those people.
Probably handling the toughest task, judging, my hat goes off to Howard Schaevitz, who served as Chief Judge. He assembled an outstanding team who did an efficient and thorough job. Thank you.
A special thanks to Sandi Lee for taking the tabulating. She made it happen with her software and tremendous knowledge. She was ably assisted by Tom & Ginny Gatley, Jim Hall, and Kitty Katzell.
Ann & Bob Franz handled registration, along with Ginny Gatley and Alice Prizer. This committee is so important, because it is the first line of contact after a long trip bringing a Classic, and they did a terrific job. Thank you!
Jim Butler was Official Photographer, assisted ably by Gail Schaevitz and Gail Boughter. They worked under a tight deadline for the Classic Car magazine besides making sure that all entries were photographed. The pictures were fabulous. Thank you!
Bill Lawrie was so helpful in receiving the registrations and monies and keeping expenses in line. It was great and I thank you!
Tom Gatley deserves special recognition for coordinating all the parking. I could not have done it without him and he was terrific! It all came together and a special thanks to Dick Prizer and Jeff Hery for getting the cars on the field. Thank you!
Mort Sork made it happen for us at the hotel. His perseverance with the hotel and handling all the logistics and arrangements for the hotel made it a wonderful stay for us. Thank you!
Special recognition goes to two of our newest members, Tom and Kristi Dick. They, along with the able assistance of Phil Perkins, did a wonderful job helping Tom Gatley and me in coordinating the parking. They also handled many other issues behind the scenes. My hat is off to Phil and the two of them. I look forward to having Tom and Kristi as active members of DVR.
Joe Rogers, ably assisted by Bill Lawrie, handled the signage in such a way that I never had to worry about it. It was terrific and averted a lot of problems for people on arrival, making it easy for the entrants to get to the field. Thank you!
Ted Bunker deserves my salute for pulling together the program booklet and for computerizing the names and name tags. It was down to the wire and the last minute and, without him, it would not have been done. Thank you!
It was a wonderful honor to have Chuck Conrad, CCCA national President, and Katie Robbins, Executive Administrator, attend our Classic. A special thank you to both for coming and showing your support!
A very special and warm thanks to Bill Borden for all of his wise counsel and advice from his many years of serving as Regional Coordinator of past Grand Classics. Bill was responsible for my joining DVR and is a great friend indeed!
I cannot end this letter without thanking three other people: Jim Boughter, who is our Regional Director and a good friend, who gave his wise counsel and advice as I put this together. Two others, my longtime dear friends, Fred Guyton and Bill Davis, who got me into all of this when I joined CCCA over 20 years ago and who traveled from St. Louis, MO, and Charleston, WV, to give their support and help! Thank you!!!!!
